The competition’s closing gala, attended by all the competitors, was held on Monday, 18 June, at the Kraków branch of the National Bank of Poland. The event was organised by the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolska Region and the Małopolska Entrepreneurship Centre.
Petmex presented its Circular Economy (CE) model based on the slogan: “YOUR WASTE, OUR RAW MATERIAL. OUR WASTE, YOUR RAW MATERIAL”.
How does this model work?
As a Polish manufacturer of natural dog treats, Petmex Company bases its business on the idea of “reuse”. By creating its products from waste from the meat processing industry, the company not only finds value in raw materials that might otherwise be lost, but also helps to minimise waste in the sector. This is an example of a circular economy, where the waste from one process becomes the raw material for another. Our business strategy is based on processing waste from slaughterhouses and meat plants. Category III products, such as ears, noses, tails, hooves, bones or cartilage, are for us fully valuable raw materials, which we hand-process and dry, resulting in the finished product – natural dog chews. Our production also generates waste in the form of fat. This is a by-product that we recover at two stages: during the manual processing of the raw material and during the thermal processing stage. The fat collected this way is passed on to manufacturers of feed for farm animals, who use it to produce feed mixes. This feed then goes to cattle and pig farms, from where these animals are sent to slaughterhouses. As a result, we create a circular economy in which every element is fully used.
